How to paint pebbles…

A few months ago D and I went to Southsea beach and collected pebbles, we painted them and I gave them at a nautical themed hen night. The bride actually used them as decoration at her homely wedding which was an unexpected surprise!

The key is to use acrylic paints, I went into my local craft shop and bought a mixed set and some cheap paint brushes.

To get the bolder colours use a base coat of white acrylic paint.

Make sure each layer has dried before you put on more paint.

Once they have dried, you can write words or quotes with permanent marker.

We varnished them with a non-yellowing varnish from a local DIY store

Here are some pictures of the finished product at the hen night…

… and again at the wedding!

  1. They’re fab! I love the fish – very artistic. Someone I follow on twitter paints stones and makes them into fridge magnets; she puts owls and all sorts on them.

  2. These are fabulous and such a wonderful idea. Painting pebbles with a drop of something sparkly would make a great hen do afternoon activity. Doubling the finished results as table decorations at the wedding adds a lovely personal touch too. We’ve just blogged about ‘hen party wedding preparation’ ideas – what a fab idea to add to the list!

  3. They went down really well, I was pleasantly surprised. I’m pleased I could inspire your website, they’re a good hen craft idea.
